Having surrounded ourselves with animals for many years, we began research into the Great Dane breed. Speaking with many breeders, reading books, and meeting Dane owners convinced us that this was the breed for us. We met Jan Edmunds of Libertesse Great Danes in 1998 and early in 1999 we were proudly owned by our first Great Dane, “Tessa” ~ Libertesse’s I’m A Pepper. We were quickly and relentlessly hooked by her soulful eyes and gentle personality. Tessa quickly became friend and willing accomplice to our sneaky Parsons Russell Terrier (formerly known as a Jack Russell Terrier), Tyler.
Fast forward to 2002 where the desire to add another Dane to our family took hold. Blues had been the color that drew me to the breed, and it was time for a blue. We contacted Cindy Powell of Adonis Great Danes who was planning a litter of blacks and blues. Personality and temperament are of paramount importance to me, so James and I got in the truck for a road trip to meet Cindy and “Brinkley”. Falling for Brinkley was easy as not only is she beautiful outside, but equally beautiful inside. On August 2, 2003 Brinkley delivered 11 beautiful puppies. Meena ~ Adonis’ Etched In Stone, came home with us in late September. Like her mother, Meena is beautiful inside and out and we proudly present her as the foundation of Kismet Reg’d Great Danes.
I have been very fortunate to have found experienced and passionate mentors in Cindy and Peggy Mignon of ValbyDane Reg’d Great Danes to teach and guide me through these years. I have also had many wonderful friends in the Dane community to provide endless support and encouragement leading to present day and Kismet Reg’d, Jan, Cindy, Peggy, Marni Kueber of Dark Horse Reg’d Great Danes and Tara Humphrey of Blacklabel Reg’d Great Danes to name just a few.
In 2009 we decided to add another Terrier to our household (we lost our beloved Tyler in July of 2008) so after much research we decided on a Border Terrier. After speaking with many wonderful breeders we found Debby Pomeroy of Otley Border Terriers in Arizona - and in February of 2010 Vincent and I picked up our first Border Terrier - Tic Tok. And a two breed household was formed.
Kismet Great Danes and Border Terriers was named after my beloved German Shepherd X, Kismet (Kizzy). For many years he was my soul, conscience and constant companion, now immortalized fittingly. Kismet Great Danes and Border Terriers is where we strive to produce the highest quality Great Danes bred with care, thought and love to produce beauty outside, and raised in a loving home environment surrounded by our other animals and friends to develop and encourage their inner beauty.
